Mold Tips: Until we Arrive
Help is on the way, but here are some tips for dealing with your mold before we arrive.
What to do:
- Check for water sources – Mold cannot grow without water. If it is growing in your home, there is a high chance that there is moisture coming from somewhere.
- Leave the mold alone – Mold spreads faster when disturbed. If possible leave the area alone and prevent as much air movement as possible.
- Cover visible growth with plastic – If the growth is in a high traffic area that cannot be isolated then the next best thing is to cover it with plastic and painters tape to contain it.
- Turn on a Dehumidifier – The relative humidity in your home should be between 40-50%. Any higher and mold can grow and spread. If you have a dehumidifier, turn it on. What to Avoid: Do Not use Bleach: Bleach may make mold look like it is gone but the reality is that bleach becomes another food source for mold and will make the issue worse.
